Robbin's Nest

Beloved, Why Are You Wearing a Toboggan in July?

Coach Robbin Season 2 Episode 9

Send us a text

Ever caught yourself shivering in summer? Not because of the weather, but because your heart is still dressed for winter? This episode dives deep into the powerful metaphor of dressing for your emotional seasons.

When life shifts but we remain bundled in the heavy coats of past hurts, we miss the sunshine breaking through. I share reflections on why we sometimes respond coldly when everything around us is warm – how internal struggles cause us to wear the wrong emotional attire for our current season. Whether it's carrying baggage from past relationships or maintaining a defensive posture when opportunities for joy present themselves, many of us are emotionally overdressed.

The transformation begins when we recognize the mismatch between our emotional wardrobe and life's current season. It's time to shed those winter layers – the grudges, the disappointments, the protective shields that once served us but now hold us back. Even when your heart still hurts, you can choose to "put your makeup on" and dress for where you're headed rather than where you've been.

This isn't about denial; it's about intentional alignment. Sometimes we must dress for the season we want before it fully arrives. By shedding heaviness and embracing lightness, we create space for new growth. Nobody should be able to tell what you're going through by how you carry yourself.

Ty Wonder :

Welcome to Robin'sRobbin’s Nest, the empowerment podcast with nourishment for the mind and spirit. Welcome to the Nest!

Coach Robbin :

This is Robbin, your empowerment coach. Welcome to the Nest. When I thought about what I should speak on today, I thought about how we dress in different seasons. Have you ever seen people that dress for the wrong season? It's summertime, but they have on a coat, they got on a sweater and everyone's looking at them like what in the world is wrong with you? They may even have it on toboggan, but could it be that there is an ailment, there is an illness that is causing them to be cold even though it's 98 degrees outside? They may be anemic, their iron might be low. It's causing them to be cold even though it's hot outside. Could it be that they're going through chemotherapy and their body responds differently because of the medication that they're using to fight off a deadly illness? You don't know what the problem is, but they are dressed for the wrong season.

Coach Robbin :

What happens when things are hot in our lives? Things are going on in our life that make us overheat, but I'm dressed for the wrong season. The season is hot, but I'm not. I don't respond to people in a warm way. I'm responding in a cold way because of what's going on in my life. It's making me cold. It's making me respond a different way than the season that I'm currently in. How do I dress in my off season? My emotions are off, my attitude is off. I got a resting bitch face. Everyone else is happy, enjoying vacations, enjoying the sun, but because, internally, what I'm going through has caused me to dress and respond in a cold way, it's time that we dress for the right season. It's time that we catch up with the pace in which things are moving. Catch up. Life is moving. You are no longer in the cold season where things have stopped growing.

Coach Robbin :

The season has changed and it's time to shift your mindset off of the old season and move into your new season. Take off the heaviness of winter apparel. Shed off what somebody said and what somebody did in your last season, what somebody did in your last relationship. Shrip off your leftover clothes from the last thing that happened. Baby, it's a new season, it's a new day, it's pretty outside. Get out of the house and begin to soar again.

Coach Robbin :

Start dressing for the right season. It's time to forget about the past. Forget about what hurt you. Forget about what's making you cold and why you're upset and why you're rolling your eyes at people who they're saying good morning. And you're rolling your eyes because you don't even see no good in the morning, but it's because you are not dressed for the right season. Things have changed. The air is lifted, it's lighter, people outside they're having fun, and you still got on a toboggan and an overcoat because on the inside you're cold and you're mad at the world, and so you still have on the wrong clothes.

Coach Robbin :

It's time to realize that it's time to strip off the old season. Things are changing, things are brightening up in your life, but you got to dress for the right season. You got to be prepared for what's coming. Even if you don't feel like it, dress like it. Even if you don't feel like you want to be in that season, start acting like you're in that season anyway, and then that season will come.

Coach Robbin :

Strip off the heaviness, put on the lightness, put on your face, put your makeup on. Start looking like. Don't look like what you've been through. Nobody should be able to tell what you're going through. I still look good. I'm going out. My heart is still hurting, but I got my makeup on. My heart is still hurting, but I'm looking cute anyway, because it's time for us to dress for where we want to go instead of dressing from where we've been. So what should you do when you're dressed in the wrong season? When you're dressed in the wrong time, you're in the wrong pace. It's time to dress for the right season, to know that things are not drying up. That was last season. Things are brightening up. This is the new season and it's time for me to dress like.

Coach Robbin :

I'm in my new place.
