Ty Wonder:

Welcome to Robin's Nest, the empowerment podcast with nourishment for the mind and spirit. Welcome to the Nest.

Coach Robbin Sexton :

I'm Robin, welcome to the Nest. I want to talk about survival. Beyonce and her Destiny's Child made that song. I'm a survivor, I won't give up.

Coach Robbin Sexton :

So what happens when you have to get in survival mode, when there is an attack, an unexpected attack? Are you prepared? When I was in the army, we had to go through boot camp to learn different tactics of how to survive in any circumstance, in any surrounding. We had to run and we had to exercise and they taught us that even in the wilderness we had to have food that was prepared a different way. They were called MRIs. They didn't spoil, they were made for the long term because you can't fry bacon in the middle of trying to survive. What happens when you're attacked? When you have to go into survival mode? You have to dress differently because there is a threat on its way in your life.

Coach Robbin Sexton :

We've gone through tests where we were just in survival mode. We couldn't operate the way we normally do. We had to make sure that we were in fight or flight, because at any moment we may have to fight, at any moment we may have to flee, at any moment we may have to turn and run. So in the military we had to have PE. It was physical exercise because we had to get in shape in peacetime so that we would have strength to run when we needed it. We learned to go to the gun range. We had to march for miles with equipment on our backs, not just for fun, but so that we would be prepared if we ever had to walk long miles with equipment survival equipment on our back. We had to get in shape so that while somebody was chasing us, they didn't catch us just because we were so out of breath and it caused us to lose our lives. The training that we were doing in peacetime was so, when the attack or the threat came, we would be able to survive and go into survival mode.

Coach Robbin Sexton :

How many times have you had to go into survival mode because of something that happened in your life? Were you prepared? Were you ready? Were you in shape? We've gone into survival mode with different emotional threats. Sometimes it was a physical threat, sometimes it was abuse, sometimes it was a mental threat, and you had to go into survival mode, even with your own mind when it's attacking itself. Old pain, old thoughts trying to come and revisit, old wounds trying to be reopened. You have to go into survival mode and begin to fight the bad thoughts. Begin to remind yourself of past victories, because if you went through that, then you can make it through this.

Coach Robbin Sexton :

I am a survivor. We are survivors. Look back over your life. Look back at all the threats and the wars and the wounds that you have overcome. Look back at the times when you thought you wouldn't make it, but yet you're still here, some of the battles you went through. When you look back, you don't even remember the name of the person that hurt you so bad that you wanted to end your own life, but you didn't. You survived that attack and so now, as you look back on it and you try to remember why the pain was so intense and why, at the time you had to survive, you had to go into survival mode just to make sure that you made it through that battle.

Coach Robbin Sexton :

But now I prepare in peacetime for what will happen or what's going to happen when I have to survive. We are survivors. We have gone through tests, we have gone through wounds, we have gone through disappointments, we have gone through heartache, we have gone through mental threats, but we are preparing ourselves in peacetime for when we need to pull up and gird up our loins and gird up our strength so that we will not wear out when something is trying to chase us down. We are survivors in Robin's nest. We are the ones that have gone through things in the past, but we made it.

Coach Robbin Sexton :

So now, if I made it through that baby, I can make it through this. Just know, get ready in peacetime, because the war may happen at any time, so that you will be able to fight or flight. Whichever one I got to do. I'm ready because I know that I am a survivor. We are survivors. We're not going to give up. We're going to keep going and we're going to keep winning. Because we are survivors, we're going to keep going and we're going to keep winning because we are survivors.
